MAN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND STALKING IN MANSFIELD
A man named Emiljano Cakraj, aged 33, was involved in a violent assault against a woman during an argument at a address in Forest Town, Mansfield on January 23.During the incident, Cakraj punched the victim multiple times in the head and used a choke hold, squeezing her until she felt she might die.
The victim tried to defend herself by scratching his arms, while Cakraj threatened to kill her.
She begged him to take her to King’s Mill Hospital, claiming she had fallen down the stairs, but instead he drove past the hospital and did not stop.
Fearing he intended to kill her, she pretended to be dead in the back seat until he pulled into a car park, where she was eventually taken to hospital by someone he called.
The woman sustained bruising to her face and scalp.
Cakraj was arrested early the following morning and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He later appeared at Nottingham Crown Court, pleaded guilty to the charges, and was sentenced to three years in prison, with a four-year restraining order imposed for stalking the victim, which involved multiple messages and fake social media accounts.
The court was also told that Cakraj had tried to delete threatening messages he sent, including a blurred picture of her car.
Following his sentencing, the victim expressed her gratitude to Police Officer PC Liam Chance for his support and dedication, stating: ‘I’d like to thank you for working so hard to keep myself and my son safe, for keeping me calm when I would call you in a panic, and for always being available and compassionate...’ PC Chance responded that he was pleased Cakraj was now in custody and hoped the case would encourage other victims to come forward.
Cakraj was convicted and imprisoned for three years and faced a four-year restraining order, demonstrating the serious consequences of domestic violence and stalking.
