DARWEN MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ASSAULT AND THREATENING EX-PARTNER
A Darwen man named Emile Nicol, aged 22, who has a history of violence and a previous conviction, was involved in violent and threatening behavior.
He had a restraining order issued in November banning him from contacting his former partner.
Despite this, shortly after the order, Nicol was found breaching it by entering Newton Street in Darwen.
The court heard he made several attempts to contact his former partner after they mutually agreed not to communicate.
On March 22, he attacked her in a pub, during which he allegedly back-handed her in the face.
After she left the pub, Nicol entered her home at 4am, threatened her, and caused her to fear for her safety.
She reported the incident to police the following morning, noting it was another breach of the restraining order.
It was also revealed Nicol's past included community orders linked to his sister Sky's death in 2016, with courts showing leniency due to his grief and history of offending.
However, the judge expressed concern over his repeated breaches and lack of control, stating, 'The fact you have been issued with court orders does not seem to have had any effect on you in stopping you offending.' Nicol was sentenced to 10 months in prison and the restraining order was ordered to remain.
His former partner was present during the sentencing, and the judge advised her, 'If you make further complaints to the police and then proceed to be struck down with amnesia, then the court might become cynical about your position, when sometimes, women in your position can end up dead.'
