NOTTINGHAMSHIRE NURSE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND COVER-UP
A Nottinghamshire nurse has been permanently removed from the nursing profession after being convicted of raping a junior colleague and attempts to cover it up.Edmore Manjengwa is serving a 16-year prison sentence following his conviction, which includes charges of raping and sexually assaulting women in September 2020 and at an earlier time, as well as attempting to pervert the course of justice by persuading a colleague to provide a false alibi.
Manjengwa, aged 51, was employed by Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.
He was initially investigated in December 2020 on suspicion of rape and sexual assault but was not charged at that time.
A subsequent accusation in September 2021 led to his being charged in March 2022.
In court on September 14, 2023, he was found guilty of two counts of rape and sexual assault, along with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He was sentenced to 16 years in prison and will be on the sex offenders register for life.
The Nottinghamshire Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing confirmed that Manjengwa committed the assaults at two different women’s homes, one in July 2020 and another in September 2020, when he also orchestrated a colleague’s false alibi.
Nottinghamshire Police initially paused their investigation but later charged him after the second allegation.
Following his conviction, he was dismissed from his nursing role in July 2022 and remains detained at HMP Whatton.
The panel overseeing his fitness to practice emphasized that his conduct severely undermines the professional standards required for nurses and breaches trust, leading to his being struck off the nursing register.
The trust's leader stressed their immediate response, including suspension and dismissal, highlighting their commitment to public safety and professional integrity.
