DUNCAN STANNERS SENTENCED IN KINCARDINE FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN FIFE AND EAST LOTHIAN
In a significant legal development, Duncan Stanners, a 35-year-old man from Kincardine with a troubling history of violence, has been formally sentenced to a lengthy prison term for a series of serious sexual offences committed over a decade.The sentencing took place at the High Court in Edinburgh, marking the culmination of a high-profile case that drew considerable attention from local communities and law enforcement agencies alike.
Stanners was found guilty last month following a comprehensive trial that examined allegations spanning from 2010 to 2020.
The court's verdict confirmed his involvement in multiple instances of sexual abuse against women, incidents that have left lasting scars on the victims and have raised concerns about safety and justice in the region.
Detective Constable Matt Ghilotti, who has been involved in the investigation, expressed a sense of relief and hope that the sentencing will bring some closure to those affected.
He emphasized the importance of addressing sexual violence, stating, “I hope this sentencing provides some measure of closure for the victims.
Sexual abuse has no place in our society and any reports made to Police Scotland will be robustly investigated.” Adding to the gravity of Stanners' criminal record, it was revealed that in 2017, he was convicted at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for a separate incident involving extreme violence.
During that case, he subjected a woman to brutal abuse over a two-year period.
The court heard that Stanners punched, kicked, and spat on the victim, who was pregnant at the time.
He also physically assaulted her by grabbing her by the throat and pushing her down the stairs, acts that demonstrated a pattern of violent behavior and disregard for the safety of others.
The recent sentencing underscores the serious nature of Stanners' crimes and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat sexual violence and protect vulnerable individuals within the communities of Kincardine, Fife, and East Lothian.
