MAN JAILED AFTER STRANGLING WIFE AND THREATENING TO KILL HER IN COUNTRY LANE
A father-of-seven was called a "controlling bully" after strangling his wife on a country lane while saying he would kill her.The victim returned home with neck injuries visible to their child, and during the attack, O'Neill told her: "You are going to die.
I am going to kill you." He was sentenced to six years nine months in prison and banned for life from contacting the woman, who is divorcing him.
Judge James Sampson described him as a "controlling bully." O'Neill admitted making threats to kill and assault causing actual bodily harm on July 24 last year.
He also pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice between January 4 and 21 this year, involving a plan with Kerry-Anne Hay, who was given a suspended two-year sentence.
The court heard that O'Neill visited his estranged wife in Leicester, later stopped for alcohol, and argued with her in a lay-by where he squeezed her throat, threatening to kill her while throttling her and saying "You are going to die." The judge noted his sinister, manipulative, and demeaning behaviour.
O'Neill, 39, of Wiverton Road, Nottingham, was represented by Nicola Moore, who stated there are two sides to every story.
The article includes images of O'Neill, with the primary one being a picture of him and a caption referencing Leicestershire Police.
