NOTTINGHAM REPEAT STALKER DION BUTLER GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE AFTER DISTURBING BEHAVIOR
A repeat stalker from Nottingham, Dion Butler, has been regarded as a 'high-risk' to anyone he is in a relationship with, according to psychiatrists and a probation officer, as reported in Nottingham Crown Court on August 22.Butler, who has prior stalking convictions involving a woman where he attempted to force entry into her property, continued to stalk his former partner, making her life miserable for a week last August following their breakup.
The victim went on holiday to Scarborough but had to cut her trip short after Butler inundated her, her daughter, and her friend with threatening messages, including one where he promised to damage her house and insulted her.
She was also subjected to numerous no caller ID calls, believed to be from Butler, and derogatory comments posted about her on her daughter's Facebook posts, causing serious alarm or distress.
The court was told that this had a detrimental effect on her self-confidence, and she did not want to communicate with him.
Her barrister, Gareth Gimson, stated, "He takes full responsibility for everything he has done." Butler, aged 42 and from Penllech Walk, Broxtowe, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Judge Stuart Rafferty KC sentenced him to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, alongside a five-year restraining order, a 'building better relationships' program, and 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he will be subject to a six-month alcohol treatment requirement.
The judge expressed his disappointment that Butler, who has an unstable personality disorder, had started a new relationship before the case concluded and before he pleaded guilty, describing his behavior as "vile" and noting that both psychiatrists and the probation officer regard him as a "high-risk" to anyone he is involved with.
The judge also highlighted the attention-seeking nature of Butler's persistent and disturbing behaviors.
