A father-of-two who bombarded women all over Britain with more than 1,200 obscene phone calls has been jailed for a year.
Dean Barber, 25, was found guilty after months of targeting potential victims at sports centres, recruitment agencies, and shops.
He was arrested at his home in Westminster, central London.
Barber admitted to causing a public nuisance between November 2006 and last month.
Judge Christopher Hardy described his actions as 'disgraceful behaviour' and stated, "This particular case is so unpleasant and so extensive that clearly the court must impose a custodial sentence to indicate its abhorrence of this sort of persistent behaviour." The judge emphasized the severity of Barber's actions, noting that at least 1,200 calls were made by him, with many more likely.
Many victims were left terrified by his conduct.
The investigation involved Scotland Yard's Telecommunications Intelligence Unit and British Telecom's Nuisance Call Bureau, which ultimately identified Barber as the perpetrator.
