Musselburgh man who believed he was messaging a 12-year-old girl exposed in online sting A Musselburgh man has been exposed after allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to someone he believed was a 12-year-old girl.
David Watt is said to have contacted a social media profile before asking for indecent photographs and engaging in conversations of a sexual nature.
What he didn't realise was that the profile wasn't being operated by a child at all.
Instead, it was an adult decoy account created as part of an operation aimed at identifying suspected online child predators.
Following the investigation, Watt was identified, arrested and later appeared before Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where he admitted the charges.
The court heard that the online contact took place over a number of weeks.
He was placed on the sex offenders register on an interim basis while sentencing was deferred for reports.
