FIFE MAN JAILED AFTER WEEK-LONG DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN

A resident of Buckhaven has been detained after confessing to unlawfully entering his former partner’s residence at 2am with the intent to rekindle their relationship.

David Thomson, who resides on West High Street in Levenmouth, appeared before the court from custody.

The 38-year-old was placed on remand after admitting to an eight-day period of abusive behavior directed at his ex-partner.

He went to her house in Dysart during the early hours.

Prosecutor Xander van der Scheer explained that the couple had been together for approximately seven years, but their relationship ended in May.

Thomson’s lawyer, David Cranston, noted that since then, their relationship had been on and off.

His actions grew more aggressive over time.

Mr van der Scheer told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court that on January 21 at around 2am, Thomson pounded on the door and managed to gain entry through the balcony door.

“She shouted for him to leave.

“He became hostile and accused her of being with someone else.” Thomson demanded she unblock him from social media accounts and then left the property but stayed in the garden.

The woman locked her doors, but Thomson began banging on them again.

She closed the curtains, yet he continued to hit them more forcefully.

“The accused was repeatedly messaging her.

“He stated he couldn’t get a bus until 6.15am.

“She chose to ignore him.” Thomson remained at the scene until about 5.30am.

Mr van der Scheer added that throughout that day, the woman kept receiving emails and messages from Thomson, which persisted into the evening.

He sent her over 100 emails during the day, some with offensive names.

She contacted police the following day.

On January 28, she began to receive more emails from Thomson, pleading for her to take him back.

One message read: “I’ve said some horrible things.

I’ve been way out of order.” She made it clear she wasn’t interested.

“As a reaction, Thomson was displeased,” said Mr van der Scheer.

Thomson returned to her home, but she managed to lock herself inside as he knocked on the door.

Police were called, but he had left before they arrived.

He was located two days later.

During his messages, Thomson also threatened self-harm.

He admitted to engaging in an eight-day campaign of domestic abuse.

His solicitor, Mr Cranston, stated, “The relationship was quite difficult.

“Just before this incident, Mr Thomson understood the relationship was over.

“He appears to have experienced a distressing breakdown.

“He had hoped to salvage the relationship.

“However, he fully accepts that it has ended.” Sheriff Maryam Labaki postponed sentencing until later this month for report preparation.

Bail was denied.

A non-harassment order was issued for two years.

Thomson is scheduled to return to court on February 21.

The sheriff commented, “This is a very sinister pattern of behavior, which must have been terrifying for the victim.”
