DAVID SHAW FROM BANGOR JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT NEAR LLANDUDNO JUNCTION

In December 2022, a man from Bangor was sentenced to prison for a serious sexual assault that took place on the rail network near Llandudno Junction.

The incident involved a 15-year-old girl and was thoroughly investigated by the British Transport Police (BTP).

David Shaw, aged 50 and residing on Beach Road in Bangor, appeared before Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on the 22nd of November.

During the hearing, Shaw pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including one count of sexual assault, a charge of common assault, and criminal damage.

The court's decision resulted in a sentence of 52 weeks imprisonment, which is approximately one year behind bars.

In addition to his prison term, Shaw was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), a legal measure designed to restrict his behavior and protect the public from potential harm.

Furthermore, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a decade, a requirement that entails regular reporting and monitoring.

The incident in question occurred on the evening of Thursday, July 14, 2022.

Shaw, who was intoxicated at the time, was traveling on a train near Llandudno Junction.

He sat next to a young girl and another passenger, positioning himself uncomfortably close to the victim, almost cornering her at her window seat.

Shaw then placed his arms around her neck, and despite the girl repeatedly stating that she was a minor, he proceeded to commit a sexual assault.

Following the assault, at the next stop, Llandudno Junction, the victim and her friend disembarked from the train, distancing themselves from Shaw.

His behavior did not end there; Shaw became aggressive towards railway staff, refusing further travel and acting out violently.

He spat at a train driver and tore off his T-shirt in a fit of anger.

In the early hours of July 15, 2022, at approximately 12:59 a.m., Shaw continued his disruptive behavior by going to Colwyn Bay railway station.

There, he picked up a rock and threw it at the station’s glass doors, shattering the glass and causing damage estimated at £660.77.

This act of vandalism further compounded his criminal record and led to additional legal consequences.

Shaw’s actions have been met with significant legal repercussions, reflecting the seriousness with which authorities treat sexual assault and related offenses on public transportation.

His case underscores the importance of safety and accountability for offenders who commit crimes in public spaces, especially involving vulnerable minors.
