DAVID GROCER'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN KENDAL AND BIRMINGHAM REVEALED
A woman from Kendal found herself unwittingly entangled in a dangerous and distressing relationship with a man later identified as David Grocer, a convicted sex offender with a long history of criminal activity. The ordeal began when Grocer, under a false identity, posted a profile on a dating website, luring the woman into contact. What initially appeared to be a casual online connection quickly spiraled into a nightmare of control and violence. As their relationship progressed, Grocer's behavior grew increasingly aggressive and threatening. The woman recounted a terrifying incident where Grocer, wielding a breadknife, threatened to 'treat her like a dog.' Although he did not physically attack her with the weapon, he held it aloft in a menacing manner, which left her genuinely frightened for her safety. Her courage eventually prompted her to persuade him to put the knife down, but the situation escalated further when Grocer responded by punching her three times in the face. In a final act of intimidation, he slammed the door behind her as she managed to escape.
Following the assault, Grocer's violence did not cease. He physically restrained her by trapping her arm, and he issued a chilling threat to her life if she dared to report the incident. Under duress, she was forced to accompany him to Birmingham before they returned to Kendal. The woman has since been haunted by persistent fear and nightmares, reliving the trauma of that day.
David Grocer's criminal record is extensive, comprising 89 offences, including six robberies, indecent assault, and rape. His criminal history underscores a pattern of violent and predatory behavior. At Carlisle Crown Court, Grocer admitted to multiple charges, including assault, causing actual bodily harm, and breaching sex offenders' notification requirements. The court sentenced him to two years in prison, with an additional three-year extended license period. Furthermore, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from contacting his victim for ten years, in an effort to protect her from further harm.
