DOMINIC CARR SENTENCED IN KENDAL FOR SEXUAL COMMUNICATIONS WITH UNDERAGE DECOY IN CUMBRIA
A man from Kendal has been sentenced to three years in prison after engaging in inappropriate and sexualized conversations with an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.The incident took place in August of the previous year, when Dominic Carr, aged 34, initiated a series of messages that were of a sexual nature.
These exchanges were conducted with what he thought was a minor, but in reality, the person he was communicating with was a decoy set up by law enforcement authorities in Cumbria.
Following the investigation, Carr was brought before Carlisle Crown Court, where he faced charges related to attempting to induce or engage a girl aged between 13 and 15 in sexual activity.
Additionally, he was charged with attempting to communicate sexually with a minor, which is a serious offense given the potential harm and exploitation involved.
The court also imposed a significant restriction on Carr’s future conduct by issuing a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, aimed at preventing any further contact or behavior of a similar nature.
Det Con Ewan Breeze, speaking on behalf of the police, emphasized the gravity of the case.
He stated, “Carr was aware the ‘child’ he was speaking to was 14 years old when he engaged in conversations of a sexual nature.
Although the child was a decoy, Carr is an obvious risk to young people.” This statement underscores the awareness Carr had of the minor’s age and his deliberate choice to pursue inappropriate communication.
Det Con Breeze further highlighted the importance of the sentence as a warning to others who might consider similar actions.
“The sentence was a ‘warning’ to anyone considering communicating with children sexually.
We have a dedicated unit and have a range of tactics at our disposal,” he added, reaffirming the police’s commitment to protecting minors and prosecuting offenders.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Cumbria to combat online predatory behavior and safeguard vulnerable young individuals from exploitation.
