CAERNARFON MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR BRUTAL CROWBAR MURDER
David Davies, aged 25 and living in Clynnog near Caernarfon, was found guilty of the murder of his former girlfriend, Emma Louise Baum, who was 22 years old.The fatal incident took place at her residence in Penygroes during July, where she suffered at least 20 injuries to the head.
During the court trial, it was revealed that Davies admitted to retrieving a crowbar from a rabbit hutch and attacking Ms.
Baum amid a dispute over access to their child.
He insisted that he was unaware of her death, claiming, "All I remember was walking out with the crowbar to the car...
I didn't know I'd killed her.
I knew I'd hurt her - but I didn't know she was dead." Court judge Keith Thomas, however, dismissed this explanation, asserting that Davies had come prepared with the weapon with the intent to threaten or frighten Ms.
Baum, and that the assault was both violent and lengthy, meant to inflict maximum injury.
The court found him guilty beyond reasonable doubt, citing a history of violent behaviour and threats directed at the victim.
The judge sentenced Davies to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 22 years before he could be considered for parole, emphasizing the unprecedented brutality of the crime.
Emma Baum's mother, Amanda Williams, delivered a victim impact statement, expressing her grief and shock, saying, "To think that someone so close to my daughter could do such a thing is unbelievable and totally devastating." The case also prompted an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission into prior police interactions with Ms.
Baum, as well as a domestic homicide review conducted by the Gwynedd and Anglesey Community Safety Partnership.
