MAN JAILED FOR RACIALLY ABUSING WOMAN IN CAERNARFON
A man named Michael Owen Williams from Dolfor, Pwllheli, was sentenced to two years and one month behind bars after racially insulting a woman in front of her children at a bus station in Caernarfon.
Williams admitted to committing racially aggravated harassment as well as breaching a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO).
In addition to his jail time, he will be subject to a restraining order for three years to protect the victim.
Police reports indicate that the 36-year-old man approached the woman without any provocation, shouting at her to 'go back where you came from' and stating 'you don't belong here.' This caused her and her children to feel visibly distressed.
The incident also represented a breach of a SOPO issued in 2008, which forbade him from approaching or intimidating women.
District Inspector Ian Roberts spoke out against the act, saying: 'This was disgusting behaviour aimed at a woman because of her race.
Such acts of hate are unacceptable in Gwynedd, and we will enforce strict measures against hate crimes.' The court also ordered a three-year restraining order to prevent any contact between Williams and the victim.
