DAVID CRAIG SENTENCED IN PAISLEY FOR YEARS OF SEXUAL ABUSE AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
A man named David Craig has been brought to justice after subjecting a young girl to years of sexual abuse.Craig's disturbing behavior was uncovered after the victim finally confided in someone about her ordeal.
The 29-year-old repeatedly targeted the girl from the age of eight while she watched cartoons, according to reports from the Paisley Daily Express.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard that police were called a decade later, leading to Craig's arrest.
Procurator fiscal depute David McDonald detailed the incident: "At this time, she was in the living room watching cartoons.
David Craig came in and sat beside her.
She felt awkward and therefore picked up her covers, went to the opposite end of the couch, and pretended to go to sleep." Despite her response, Craig persisted, maneuvering himself under her covers and committing a vile sex act at a property in Erskine.
The court was told that the victim recalled similar incidents occurring over several years.
Craig would also climb into her bed and masturbate and, on multiple occasions, attempted to rape her.
The court recounted Craig's physical description as 'fat' and detailed a particularly sickening incident where he lay on top of her, preventing her from moving, and molested her.
Many years later, the girl confronted Craig about the abuse.
Mr.
McDonald explained: "While on a night out, she began receiving messages from the accused.
He asked, 'ask anything if u wanna xx.' He repeated this several times, attaching kissing emojis." The victim responded, asking why he had done such things when they were younger, and asked him to be honest.
Craig replied, "I love u x." She then pressed him again, asking for an explanation, and he responded, "I love you.
Can't believe am saying this but I get jealous when I see with new bfs x." Eventually, the victim disclosed what had been happening and reported it to the police.
During court proceedings, Craig's defense agent, Mr.
Barr, stated that Craig "saw her as someone he could have a relationship with" at the time of the offenses and mentioned that Craig suffers from mental health issues.
Sheriff Eoin McGinty highlighted the seriousness of Craig's actions, stating: "These are serious offenses over a period of time." The court deferred sentencing to allow for a criminal justice social work report and a review of restrictions on Craig's liberty.
Craig's bail was maintained, and he is set to return to court next month for sentencing.
In the meantime, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
