BRIDGEND MAN JAILED FOR HISTORICAL SEXUAL ABUSE
A sexual predator from Bridgend who victimised a young girl over a three-year span in the late 1990s has been sentenced to prison after a lengthy police investigation that lasted nearly twenty years.David Carey Williams, aged 58, was apprehended at Heathrow Airport in October 2021 after having evaded police for two decades.
He planned to re-enter the UK covertly, but South Wales Police officers anticipated his arrival and planned an arrest at the airport.
Williams had left the UK in 2000 after discovering that his victim had been spoken to by law enforcement.
Not long afterwards, authorities found his vehicle in Rhoose and confirmed that he had booked a flight to Lanzarote.
The operation, called Enigma, was launched to locate him.
By 2013, authorities believed he was in Sri Lanka, working with the National Crime Agency, the Foreign Office, and local Sri Lankan agencies to locate and extradite him.
He was unaware of the ongoing cooperation between these agencies.
When arrested, officers retrieved vital evidence related to the offences from over twenty years prior.
Throughout the abuse, the victim, who was aged 10 to 13, was subjected to multiple acts of sexual touching and indecent assault.
Williams faced ten charges of sexual activity with a child and admitted to eight.
He was sentenced on May 27 at Cardiff Crown Court to 12 years and three months.
He will serve half of this sentence in custody and will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order after release to prevent further offending.
