WEIGHTLIFTER'S TERRIFYING CATALOGUE OF VIOLENCE TOWARDS TWO GIRLFRIENDS
A weightlifter who repeatedly used steroids engaged in a pattern of violent and callous acts toward two girlfriends. His assaults included pulling their hair, spitting at them, and strangling both women until they lost consciousness.
He also inflicted physical injuries, such as cutting one woman’s face with a set of keys, stamping on her stomach, pressing her face against a lit hob, and attacking her with a knife.
Garth Anthony Rees created a situation where one of the women believed he was going to kill her.
He held her head near a lit hob after insulting her as weak and slapping her, creating a threatening scenario.
Janine Davies, representing the prosecution, stated that the victims initially saw Rees as caring and friendly, but his demeanor changed following an argument later that year, when he became aggressive.
Prosecutors explained that after the women moved in together, Rees's behavior turned threatening and violent.
On one occasion, he pulled a woman from a sofa, threw her against a wall, and punched her in the chest, resulting in two broken ribs.
About a week later, he grabbed her by the hair, forced her face into a mattress, and then threw her across the living room, causing her to hit her head on a table.
Fearing further harm, she pretended to be unconscious, but once she regained consciousness, he kicked her in the ribs.
Rees then advanced toward her with a knife, slapped her, and threw her against a wall.
The violence continued with him slapping her, pushing her against a washing machine, pulling her legs from under her, and stamping on her stomach.
He also used a set of keys to cut her face, holding her head near a lit hob and turning it on.
Ms.
Davies explained that the woman believed Rees was going to kill her.
Rees was sentenced to 16 months in prison, during which he was seen holding his head in his hands.
Additionally, the judge issued a restraining order that will last for five years.
