Three individuals received prison sentences for the murder of five-year-old Logan Mwangi, whose body was recovered by law enforcement officers from a river near his residence in Sarn in July 2021.
On Thursday, June 30, Cardiff Crown Court heard from Angharad Williamson, aged 31, John Cole, aged 40, and 14-year-old Craig Mulligan, as they appeared before the court.
All three were found guilty of murder and attempted to obstruct justice back in April.
The trial, which lasted ten weeks, revealed how the defendants conspired to conceal the circumstances of Logan’s death shortly after it occurred.
Law enforcement officers located Logan’s remains in the River Ogmore at around 6 a.m.
on Saturday, July 31, shortly after his mother, Angharad Williamson, made a 999 call.
Initially, the accused claiming Logan had gone missing overnight raised suspicion, leading to their subsequent arrest.
The Major Crime Investigation Team collected substantial evidence in the days following, which led to charges of murder against them.
A Post Mortem conducted by the Home Office showed that Logan had sustained over 56 injuries.
A pathologist described these injuries as extreme, comparable to those seen after a severe fall from a significant height or a high-speed road traffic accident.
John Cole was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 29 years before parole eligibility.
Angharad Williamson also received a life sentence with a minimum of 28 years to serve, while Craig Mulligan was sentenced to detention at Her Majesty’s Pleasure, with a minimum term of 15 years.
