STOCKTON MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ATTEMPTS

A man identified as David Cameron, aged 43, was sentenced after being caught attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor.

Cameron first contacted a decoy account set up by paedophile hunters on 12 November 2023 via a dating app, greeting with 'hey beautiful'.

Over several days, exchanges ensued before the decoy disclosed the girl was 14.

Cameron expressed surprise, saying he thought she was older and acknowledged that her age might be an issue due to his work.

Despite this, he stated he was 'looking for friendship and maybe a little fun,' and he complimented her non-sexual images, calling her 'cute' and commenting on her body.

On 23 November, Cameron requested nude pictures and sent images of himself in the bath, indicating he would perform a sex act.

He asked for more explicit images the next day but then suggested they stop talking and 'move on' when the girl changed the subject.

Cameron was arrested on 14 December, though the chat had been deleted from his device.

In court, he admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

The judge noted Cameron 'fully intended' to obtain sexual images from a minor and believed he was communicating with a child at all times.

However, Cameron expressed sincere remorse.

He was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, with 180 hours of unpaid work.

Furthermore, he is subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and must sign the sex offenders register for a decade.

The court acknowledged his good character prior to this incident but emphasized the seriousness of his actions.
