FRASERBURGH MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON MOTHER WITH GOLF CLUBS AND VASE
A man from Fraserburgh has been sentenced to jail after physically assaulting his mother using multiple weapons including golf clubs and a glass vase.David Buchan, aged 26, changed clubs midway through the violent attack and also struck his mother with a glass vase.
The incident occurred at an address on Buchan Road, Fraserburgh, on July 28, 2023.According to court reports, Buchan was sitting with his mother watching TV when an argument about her current boyfriend escalated into violence.
Prosecutor Emma Peterson described how Buchan punched his mother, Christina Buchan, in the face, causing her to fall.
He also struck her thigh with a vase, resulting in pain.
Following the vase attack, he repeatedly punched her in the head and body, prompting a third party to call the police.The court heard that Buchan then grabbed a silver-headed golf club, hitting his mother on the head and causing her to fall.
He subsequently selected a longer golf club and struck her on the elbow.
Mrs.
Buchan was able to leave the house but was followed by her son, who was still wielding the golf club above his head.
Upon police arrival, Buchan was traced to a nearby address.

Buchan received medical treatment for a 4cm cut on her thigh, which was glued shut, as well as cuts and swelling to her elbow.Buchan's defense lawyer explained that he had a challenging relationship with his mother and was raised in foster care.
He noted Buchan's academic promise while in care, but also discussed his drug addiction troubles after returning to live with his family at 17.
The court recognized Buchan's difficult background but emphasized the seriousness of the assault and use of weapons.
The sheriff sentenced him to 22 months and two weeks in prison, backdated to July 8, when he was first detained.
Additionally, Buchan faced a six-month jail sentence for a domestic abuse incident involving pushing and striking a woman, served concurrently.
He was also issued a three-year non-harassment order preventing contact with the woman.
