GLENROTHES MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER BRUTAL ASSAULT ON GIRLFRIEND
A violent individual named Darren Gray, aged 22, who admitted to assaulting his girlfriend, Hayley Canning, during a night in their home on Carleton Avenue, Glenrothes, has avoided a jail sentence. The assault occurred on December 7, when Miss Canning went to bed shortly after midnight and awoke to find Gray on top of her, punching her repeatedly in the face and head.
During the attack, she was bleeding heavily and was confused about why she was being assaulted.
Gray also tore her top and used it to pull around her neck, resulting in bruising around her neck.
The attack was interrupted when Gray's brother, Curtis, heard the commotion and entered the scene, leading to a fight between the brothers.
Gray eventually called the emergency services and admitted to battering his girlfriend.
The woman sustained swelling and bruising over her face, head, and back, with additional bruising around her neck from the ripped top.
Gray pleaded guilty to assault causing injury, with an allegation of strangulation being dropped.
The court was informed that a jail sentence was likely, yet the sheriff ultimately sentenced Gray to a community payback order with two years of supervision, 200 hours of unpaid work, and mandatory participation in a domestic abuse groupwork program.
