MAN WHO RAPED WOMAN JAILED
A man who raped a woman in Newcastle-under-Lyme has received a prison sentence of nearly ten years.Daniel Tyrone Hemmings, aged 34 and from Birmingham, was given a term of nine years and six months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday (5 December), following his conviction for rape during a prior trial.
He admitted to charges of harassment without physical violence, communicating threats of death or serious injury, failing to update his details on the Sex Offender’s Register, and stalking that caused significant harm and distress.
The incident involved unwanted advances from Hemmings and him disregarding the victim's attempts to stop the behaviour in 2021.
A few days later, the victim courageously came forward to report what had happened.
Hemmings was then detained and questioned, during which he denied the allegations.
Thanks to the victim’s bravery and the strength of the evidence collected, prosecutors secured the necessary charges, leading to his court appearance.
Hemmings maintained his innocence regarding the rape, but the jury found him guilty.
As part of his punishment, Hemmings was issued a restraining order and instructed to pay a fine of £228.
