TEMPORARY RUGBY COUNCIL AGENCY WORKER JAILED FOR PUTTING TEENAGE GIRL THROUGH 'HUGELY TRAUMATIC' SEX ASSAULT
A temporary worker employed by Rugby Borough Council has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of two counts of sexual assault against a teenage girl.In June 2023, Paul Badley, a 58-year-old from Birmingham, was engaged in agency work as a housing officer on a temporary basis.
During his duties, he met an 18-year-old woman.
While assisting her with a move, he kissed her and, without her consent, lifted her top and kissed her on the chest.
The woman contacted police shortly after Badley left the scene, prompting an investigation.
He was quickly identified as the suspect and was arrested two days later.
Upon learning of the allegations, the council immediately removed him from his position.
Badley was charged with two counts of sexual assault.
After a four-day trial in mid-August, a jury unanimously found him guilty.
He was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, accompanied by a seven-year restraining order.
Additionally, he will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Detective Constable Gemma Kirby commented, “This incident was extremely traumatic.
I want to commend the victim for her bravery in coming forward.
It has been and continues to be a difficult time.
“I also wish to acknowledge the support of the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor from Safeline, who assisted the victim throughout the investigation and the court proceedings.
Their professionalism and compassion helped turn a distressing experience into a more manageable one for the victim.”
