BIRMINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR CHILD GROOMING AND INDECENT IMAGES
A man from Birmingham with a history of child abuse, who used Snapchat to pose as a teenage boy and manipulate girls across the UK into sexual encounters, has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison. In October of last year, West Midlands Police received information indicating that Luke Edmonds, a resident of Rubery, was uploading inappropriate images of children online.
Officers promptly executed a search warrant at his residence and confiscated a mobile device, which contained disturbing images of him engaging in sexual acts with minors.
Police reports state that Edmonds’ phone held approximately 700 indecent images and videos of children, all related to four young girls aged between 13 and 15 from various parts of the country.
He had been grooming these girls through online messaging.
It is known that he met some of the girls in locations such as Bristol, South Wales, Chester, and Scotland.
The 25-year-old was detained by police.
During questioning, he claimed that the children depicted in the videos were 16 years old.
The West Midlands Police’s Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team (OCSET) examined the data stored on Edmonds’ phone and uncovered the extent of his offenses.
A review of his Snapchat account revealed nearly 400 message threads in which he appeared to be deliberately targeting young girls, police added.
He created a profile that displayed as a 15-year-old boy, which he used to gain the trust of his victims.
Police also reported that Edmonds presented a photocopy of a counterfeit passport claiming he was 18 when meeting one of the girls.
Edmonds, of Quarry House Close, was charged and later found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, inciting a minor to perform sexual acts, possessing child abuse images, and communicating with a minor for sexual purposes.
He received a prison sentence of 15 years and seven months during a court hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.
Additionally, he was placed under a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and each of the girls he targeted was subject to an indefinite restraining order.
Following the case, DC Adrian Jackson from OCSET commented: “The exchanges between Edmonds and the children he exploited clearly demonstrated a pattern of offending.
He would manipulate their trust by expressing affection before demanding appalling acts, relentlessly and day and night.
“Edmonds was a prolific offender with an obsession for underage girls.
Fortunately, we managed to prevent him from continuing his crimes.
He will now serve many years in prison, where he can reflect on the damage he has caused to those he groomed and harmed.
“I would like to acknowledge the bravery of the young victims affected by Edmonds’ actions.
Their courage throughout this investigation has been remarkable.”
