A man has been sentenced to prison for operating two illicit brothels in Birmingham, following an inquiry conducted by the Birmingham Serious Organised Crime and Exploitation (SOCEX) unit.
Law enforcement officers first identified Dongping Xiao at a property in Edgbaston in September of the previous year.
Despite his denial of any involvement in sex work, officers discovered two women present at the location along with property indicative of prostitution activities.
In February, authorities encountered the 42-year-old at another site on Bradford Street, where women and relevant items associated with sex work were also found.
It was confirmed that Xiao functioned as a 'minder,' supervising the women and ensuring their ability to engage in sex work.
Xiao was apprehended on-site, and after comprehensive investigation, he faced charges and was found guilty of maintaining two brothels.
On April 15, during a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court, Xiao who has no fixed address was sentenced to a year in prison.
The Birmingham SOCEX team comprises specialised officers tasked with investigating crimes related to adult sexual exploitation, trafficking, immigration offences, child exploitation, and organised gang criminal activities.
