MAN WHO STRANGLED HIS MOTHER AND THREATENED TO KILL HER GETS TEN MONTHS IN PRISON
A woman whose son, David Solecki, strangled her and threatened his family testified in court that she was terrified to have him return home.Solecki caused a disturbing two-day episode at their Merthyr Tydfil residence on February 8 and 9.
During this period, he engaged in aggressive acts such as threatening to kill his mother and sister, physically constricting his mother in a four-minute struggle, and hurting their dog by squeezing it until it squealed.
When authorities arrived to arrest him, he assaulted police officers.
On February 22, at Gwent Magistrates’ Court, Solecki, 31, pleaded guilty to threats to kill, arson threats, assault by beating, and attacking a police officer.
Prosecutor John Ryan recounted the events involving his family and the police.
It was revealed that on February 8, Solecki became angry after overhearing his mother being asked to care for her children for an hour.
He refused to let her leave, claiming she was paid to look after him, which worsened his anger.
He declared he wished to die and threatened to kill everyone before doing so.
His violent behavior included kicking trash bins and threatening harm to his mother’s friend, her children, and starting a fire at their home.
The next day, he woke upset again and violently responded when his sister tried to interact with their dog, squeezing it painfully and shouting threats against it.
Police found him clenched fists and heard him threaten to kill anyone who approached him, mentioning in Polish his intention to get a knife.
He also tried to attack an officer with his stab vest and kicked a police officer.
Efforts were made to connect him with his GP and mental health services, but no immediate solution was reached.
Solecki expressed regret while in custody.
His defense lawyer Owen Williams highlighted his clean past and remorse, suggesting he had difficulty managing his emotions.
Judge Catherine Richards called the incident "plainly traumatic" and sentenced Solecki to ten months in prison, with half to be served on license, along with a £156 statutory surcharge.
