WOMAN STRANGLED AFTER ARRANGING TO MEET MAN OUTSIDE POST OFFICE
A woman was violently strangled by Daniel Jenkins, 33, after he demanded her phone and placed his hands around her throat, squeezing until she was unable to breathe.
The incident occurred outside a post office early in the morning after a meeting that did not go as planned, with Jenkins and others becoming 'angry and irate' towards the victim.
The police arrived quickly, arresting Jenkins who later pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation.
The court heard he has 17 previous convictions, including 21 offences against the person and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, for which he received a suspended sentence that he is in breach of.
The victim stated the attack has severely impacted her mental health, with flashbacks, sleep issues, and neck pain.
Jenkins, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 17 months imprisonment and a three-year restraining order.
