MANSFIELD MAN DANIEL MEAKIN SENTENCED FOR ONLINE GROOMING AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In April 2017, a serious case of online grooming and child exploitation involving a Mansfield resident, Daniel Meakin, came to light, culminating in his sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court. The case highlighted the dangers of social media and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable minors.
Daniel Meakin, aged 21 and residing on Scarcliffe Street in Mansfield, was found to have engaged in disturbing online behavior targeting a 14-year-old girl.
Court proceedings revealed that Meakin used a social media application to contact the young girl, where he made numerous demands and issued threats.
These coercive tactics led the girl to send him indecent images of herself, a distressing outcome that underscored the severity of his actions.
The investigation into Meakin’s activities was initiated after the girl reported the incident to the police, prompting a thorough inquiry.
When authorities apprehended Meakin on January 16, 2017, they discovered he was in possession of eight indecent images depicting children aged between eight and 12 years old.
Additionally, a quantity of cannabis was recovered from his bedroom, further implicating him in drug-related offenses.
During the court proceedings, Meakin admitted to multiple charges.
He pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity, with the offenses occurring between October 10, 2016, and December 20, 2016.
He also admitted to attempting to meet a girl under 16 years old following acts of sexual grooming, which took place from November 10, 2016, to December 15, 2016.
Furthermore, he confessed to making indecent photographs of children on January 16, 2017.
His guilty pleas extended to concerns over the supply of cannabis, and he acknowledged breaching a conditional discharge previously imposed upon him.
Following the sentencing hearing on April 4, 2017, the court handed down a sentence of four years and nine months in prison.
In addition to his incarceration, Meakin was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his contact with minors and prevent further offenses.
It was also mandated that he remain on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and safeguarding measures to protect the community from potential future harm.
