DANIEL LYNCH FROM CWMBRAN AND LLANFAES SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN WALES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Cwmbran and Llanfaes, Daniel Lynch, a 38-year-old man with a long history of criminal activity, was found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offences involving a young girl. The crimes came to light after Lynch, who had previously served time for manslaughter, targeted a vulnerable child, exploiting her innocence through manipulation and predatory behavior.According to court reports, Lynch lured the young girl by showing her a pornographic film, an act that was part of his grooming process. He then attempted to bribe her with money—specifically, £100—in an effort to silence her and prevent her from revealing what had transpired. Despite his attempts at intimidation, the girl demonstrated remarkable bravery by confiding in her mother, which ultimately led to Lynch’s arrest and subsequent trial.
The court heard that Lynch was responsible for a total of 15 counts related to sexual offences. These included three counts of raping a girl under the age of 13, five counts of assault by touching, three counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, one count of assault involving penetration with a part of the body or object, and one count of causing a child to view images depicting sexual activity. The severity and multiplicity of these charges underscored the gravity of Lynch’s crimes.
It was revealed during the proceedings that Lynch had an extensive criminal record, with 18 convictions spanning 23 offences. Notably, he had previously been convicted of manslaughter in 2009, a fact that added to the seriousness of his current sentencing. The prosecution, led by Alexander Greenwood, presented a victim impact statement written by the girl’s mother, which painted a harrowing picture of the lasting damage inflicted by Lynch’s actions. The mother described her daughter as being forced into an adult world of sexual activity, emphasizing that her childhood had been stolen and that the trauma would affect her for the rest of her life.
During sentencing, Judge Lucy Crowther addressed Lynch directly, condemning his actions. She pointed out that Lynch had shown the girl a pornographic film and used it as a means to instruct her on what he wanted her to do. The judge also noted Lynch’s denial of the offences, calling him a liar, and criticized his behavior during the trial, where he and the victim’s mother were made to sit through the proceedings. The judge remarked that Lynch’s pre-sentence report revealed a sense of self-pity rather than remorse.
As a result of his crimes, Lynch was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison. The court ordered a custodial term of 17 years, with an extended license period, meaning he will serve a minimum of 11 years and three months before being eligible for parole. Additionally, Lynch was mandated to register as a sex offender for life and was placed under an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. Throughout the sentencing, Lynch showed no visible emotion, standing impassively as the judge delivered her verdict, which aims to protect the public from further harm by this convicted predator.
