DANIEL ANTHONY AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER BREACH IN MANSFIELD
A convicted sex offender, Daniel Anthony, has been returned to prison after violating the strict conditions of his release. The 26-year-old, who was originally sentenced in 2020 for sexually assaulting a teenage girl and possessing an extreme pornographic image, faced further legal consequences due to his recent actions.Following his initial conviction, Anthony was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), a legal restriction designed to prevent offenders from engaging in activities that could harm children. This order explicitly prohibited him from having any contact with girls under the age of 16 and also restricted his internet usage, requiring that any electronic devices he used be regularly monitored by police authorities.
Despite these restrictions, authorities uncovered that Anthony was not complying with the terms of his release. In February 2022, police officers discovered that he was frequently spending time with a young girl, a contact he had failed to report to the authorities as required by his order. This breach of the SHPO prompted his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
On Thursday, October 5, at Nottingham Crown Court, Daniel Anthony appeared to face the consequences of his actions. He was brought before the court from his residence on Butler Crescent in Mansfield. After admitting to the breach of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order, he was sentenced to eight months in prison. His guilty plea underscored his acknowledgment of violating the court-mandated restrictions.
Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are a critical component of the judicial process for sex offenders, serving to limit their online activities and personal interactions to protect potential victims. These orders are actively monitored by a dedicated team of police officers who conduct regular checks to ensure compliance. Breaching such an order is considered a serious offence, often resulting in additional imprisonment, reflecting the courts' commitment to safeguarding children.
Detective Constable Kate Taylor of Nottinghamshire Police emphasized the importance of these measures, stating, “Offenders need to understand these restrictions have real teeth and that the courts take an extremely dim view when they are breached. Anthony would certainly have known he was in breach of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order so I can only conclude he thought we’d never find out. As he has found to his cost, however, it’s our business to monitor people who pose a potential risk to children, and we do find out when they are breached. Nothing is more important to us than the safety of children, so I hope this sentence serves as a warning to others with Sexual Harm Prevention orders about the consequences of ignoring them.”
