WORKINGTON MAN WITH 'GROSS' EXTREME PORN IMAGES SENTENCED
A man from Workington was found in possession of 'grossly' perverted pornographic images after a UK-based safeguarding charity received an anonymous tip from an individual in the United States, a court was told.Connor Elwood, aged 28, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court and pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing extreme and prohibited images, including one depicting sexual acts with a dead fish and another involving live animals.
These offences, relating to a total of 21 images, came to light on July 19, 2020.
The defendant, residing on Darcy Street in Workington, was sentenced to an 18-month community order and ordered to complete 15 days of rehabilitation.
Defense lawyer Brendan Burke explained that Elwood had not actively searched for these images, and there was no evidence of any related internet search history.
Burke noted that the images had been sent to Elwood’s phone via a WhatsApp group, which automatically saved received images to the device’s gallery due to the way smartphones operate.
Judge Nicholas Barker, addressing Elwood who has no prior convictions, stated that he was arrested following a tip from someone in America and that he was being sentenced for possessing 21 extreme images.
The court отмечed that the images demonstrated a depraved and unhealthy attitude towards sexuality, calling their content 'gross' and 'perverted.' The judge emphasized that Elwood’s interest was in material that was intensely troubling.
It was also revealed that Elwood participated in chat groups where such material was exchanged.
In addition to required rehabilitation sessions, he was ordered to undertake 150 hours of unpaid community work as a penalty.
