CONNOR DUNCAN

A man from Glenrothes who harassed his ex-partner through repeated phone calls and created a social media account in her name was handed a community payback order during his sentencing at Dundee Sheriff Court on April 2, 2014.

Connor Duncan, aged 20, of Barrie Path, was also ordered to pay £250 in compensation to the woman.

Duncan admitted to engaging in a course of conduct between September 15 and November 27, involving calls and attempts to contact Joanne McVey across several locations including King Street and Barrie Path, which caused her fear and distress.

His actions included repeatedly calling her, trying to pass messages through her friends, establishing social media profiles pretending to be her, and posting statements claiming to be from her.

The court was informed that Duncan had been in a relationship with Miss McVey for about a year until it ended in September.

The deputy fiscal, Eilidh Robertson, explained that after their relationship ended, Miss McVey was frequently called by Duncan, despite her telling him she did not want to talk.

Sometimes Duncan would call her for hours, and he also reached out to her friends and family seeking to pass messages.

On November 27, three of her friends received a Facebook friend request from an account claiming to be Miss McVey, which included a post stating she needed to stop texting boys with girlfriends to avoid such situations.

Recognizing the account was not her, the friends reported it, leading Miss McVey to have the page suspended and notify the police.
