ROYAL MARINE VETERAN GETS COMMUNITY ORDER FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A man named Colin Baker, aged 59, who previously served as a Royal Marine for 24 years, was caught possessing vile child abuse images.Nottingham Crown Court heard that among the files on a USB stick found at his address was a 90-minute video containing abuse material.
Baker, who is married, denied any sexual interest in children but later pleaded guilty just before his trial.
He has been sentenced to a two-year community order and must sign the sex offender register for five years along with a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
The court was told that police executed a warrant at Baker’s address in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, where they seized two laptops and a USB stick.
Evidence included indecent images of children aged six to twelve and a lengthy video, with the images associated with his searches.
Baker has a previous conviction for theft from the early 1980s and works in private security.
The judge noted his long service and expressed sympathy for his mental state but emphasized the gravity of his offending and the impact on victims.
Baker was warned that breaching his order could result in imprisonment.
