MANSFIELD MAN JAILED FOR NEGLECT AFTER PARTNER’S 11-DAY ORDEAL ON THE FLOOR

A Nottinghamshire man named Christopher Tansley was found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter after leaving his partner, Caron Kinsey, on the bedroom floor for 11 days following her fall out of bed.

Nottingham Crown Court heard that during the time she was helplessly lying there, he chose not to call emergency services.

While she was on the carpet, he would occasionally light cigarettes for her and bring her soft drinks, but he did not seek help despite knowing her condition.

When he finally called emergency services, paramedics discovered her covered in urine and feces, with pressure sores all over her left side.

She died in hospital on the same day, with the cause of death identified as bronchial pneumonia caused by the prolonged period she was on the floor.

The court stated, “The circumstances of her death are sad and tragic.

Caron was curled up on the floor in the foetal position on her left hand side.

She was covered in several urine-soaked blankets.

She had pressure sores on almost the entirety of her left hand side.

This was a terrible and distressing scene and it was plain that Caron was in need of urgent help.

Morphine was given and she was taken to hospital and died just after 11 pm that night.” The pathologist also noted that she would not have contracted pneumonia if she had been taken to hospital promptly.

Tansley, aged 63, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

The prosecution highlighted his failure to respond appropriately when Caron fell, including ignoring the repeated attempts by her GP to contact him about her medication.

The court emphasized that “11 days is an extraordinary period of time to leave Caron lying on the floor without summoning any help at all,” and concluded that his gross negligence caused her significant pain, trauma, and suffering.

His character was described as being of good standing prior to this incident, and his defense argued that custody should not be the only option, proposing that some form of other sentence might be appropriate.
