BOW STALKER SENT TO JAIL
A man named Charles Thomas Cox, aged 28 and residing on Medway Road, E3, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison after repeatedly stalking and invading the privacy of a woman in East London.Cox developed an obsession with a woman he had never met who lived near the Union Canal.
His troubling behaviors included breaking into her garden on May 4, 2020, and returning several times in June.
The woman, fearing for her safety, installed CCTV cameras.
Although she did not see Cox face-to-face again, she reviewed her footage on November 7 and discovered that he had entered her garden once more in October.
Moreover, on November 3, Cox broke into her home, stealing keys, slippers, and underwear.
When Cox appeared before Snaresbrook Crown Court last December, he admitted to charges of stalking and burglary.
He returned for sentencing last month, receiving two and a half years for stalking and an additional year for the burglary, with both sentences to run concurrently.
The court also issued him a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a restraining order, and ordered him to pay £190 in compensation to the victim.
The police identified Cox through DNA evidence collected from the crime scene.
Detective Constable Michael Dixon, leading the investigation, stated, “We still don’t understand what caused Charles Cox to develop an obsession with a woman he had never met.
His stalking was highly disturbing and upsetting, especially considering it happened at her home.
“I would urge anyone being targeted and stalked to immediately report it.
This will help us to take offenders like Charles Cox off the streets of London and make our city a safer place for all.”
