CHAD ROPER FROM NUNEATON SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF TEENAGE GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Nuneaton, Chad Roper has been sentenced to over a decade in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses involving underage girls.The court heard how Roper, a man with a troubling lack of understanding of personal boundaries, committed multiple acts of sexual violence against young females, some as young as 13 years old.
Roper, who denied all charges including rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault, was found guilty by a unanimous jury after a rigorous week-long trial held earlier this year.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing pattern of his predatory behavior spanning several years, targeting vulnerable young women in and around Nuneaton.
On Friday, Warwick Crown Court handed down a sentence of 12 years imprisonment to Roper, with an additional five years on license to be served upon his release.
Furthermore, he was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
Prosecutor Matthew Lowe addressed the jury in April, emphasizing the dangerous nature of Roper’s actions.
He stated, “The case against this defendant is that he is a young man with a worrying and dangerous lack of understanding about sexual boundaries.
That has demonstrated itself over a number of years in relation to three separate young women, with him taking advantage not only of their youth but also their intoxication.” The first known incident occurred in 2008 when Roper, then 23 years old and residing on Princes Avenue in Nuneaton, approached a 13-year-old girl near the Jubilee Sports Centre on Greenmoor Road.
He lured her onto a canal towpath where he sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her.
Fortunately, the girl managed to escape from his grasp.
Several years later, in the summer of 2013, Roper’s predatory behavior continued.
He engaged in a disturbing encounter with a 16-year-old girl after messaging her and persuading her to meet.
During their meeting on a canal bank, he provided her with cannabis and, after she expressed reluctance to see him again, her friends encouraged her to meet him, believing she might receive a “spliff” from him.
Once they met, Roper pushed her down and raped her.
Later in 2013 or early 2014, Roper targeted a 15-year-old girl who was heavily intoxicated after drinking cider with a friend in another Nuneaton park.
He approached them while smoking a joint and struck up a conversation.
While her friend wandered off, Roper engaged with the intoxicated girl, had sex with her on a park bench using a condom, and then removed the condom to continue assaulting her.
Although he was initially charged with raping her after removing the condom, that charge was dropped during the trial.
Throughout these incidents, Roper’s actions demonstrated a disturbing pattern of exploiting vulnerable young girls, often under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
His crimes have left a lasting impact on the victims and have prompted a serious response from the justice system to protect others from similar harm.
