SALFORD MAN JAILED FOR POSSESSION AND DISTRIBUTION OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES
A man residing in Salford has been convicted and sentenced to prison for grave child sex offences, including possessing over 15,000 images of children engaged in sexual activities, more than 2,000 of which are classified as Category A, representing the most severe and invasive types. The offender, 29-year-old Carlos Calcano from the Dominican Republic, pleaded guilty to 23 charges that involved sexually communicating with children, encouraging children to watch sexual acts, and inciting them to participate in such acts.
An investigation conducted by GMP’s Sexual Crime Unit led officers to his home in Colman Gardens, where multiple electronic devices were seized for detailed analysis.
Authorities discovered a large collection of disturbing images, including the most severe category, and gathered recordings of his offending behavior, amounting to over 48,000 videos and images reviewed by law enforcement.
Calcano faced additional charges for distributing these images.
During court proceedings at Manchester Crown Court on April 9, he was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison; however, his sentence was reduced by four months on April 20 to reflect time served during police observation while on bail.
The investigation also revealed that during the viewing of these extreme images, Calcano was communicating with young children, urging them to commit sexual acts—an act demonstrating extreme depravity.
The case highlights the serious threat posed by his actions and the importance of law enforcement efforts in fighting child abuse and exploitation.
