SALFORD MAN CARL EVANS CAUGHT BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS AND SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS IN PRISON
In June 2022, a disturbing incident unfolded in Salford involving Carl Evans, a 56-year-old man whose actions drew significant public and legal attention.Evans was identified and confronted by a group of dedicated paedophile hunters who had set up decoy profiles online to catch individuals seeking to engage in inappropriate sexual conversations with minors.
The group’s efforts culminated in a confrontation at Evans' residence, which was marked by considerable disorder and hostility from members of the public present at the scene.
During the confrontation, Evans displayed alarming behavior, prompting police officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Aid Unit to intervene and remove him from the area.
Despite this intervention, Evans continued to exhibit troubling conduct.
He was subsequently released under investigation but did not cease his inappropriate activities.
Instead, he resumed sexual chats with another decoy profile, further demonstrating his persistent predatory behavior.
It was also revealed that Evans had attempted to meet a girl in Moses Gate Park, located in Bolton, after engaging in conversations with an unknown decoy account.
The court was informed that Evans could not provide a rational explanation for his actions.
Judge Bernadette Baxter addressed him directly, stating, “I am told you don’t know why you did it, but I’m afraid it is all too clear why you did it.
You are a paedophile who has a sexual interest in girls of this age who are children.” Investigations uncovered that Evans’ inappropriate online behavior spanned from June 2020 until January of this year.
Prosecutor Joe Allman detailed that the conversations with the decoy girls quickly became highly sexualized, with Evans asking for explicit pictures and revealing his real age.
In some instances, Evans portrayed himself as a “nice man” and questioned whether the minors could be trusted, further highlighting his manipulative approach.
In July of the previous year, Evans made a distressing call to 999 after being confronted by the paedophile hunters at his home.
During this call, he made admissions, including that he had traveled to Moses Gate Park with the intent to meet an unknown child decoy.
Police later confirmed his movements through cell site data.
When officers arrived at his residence, Evans shockingly revealed that he had taken 24 paracetamol tablets in an apparent attempt to harm himself.
Emergency services responded swiftly, and officers from GMP’s Tactical Aid Unit had to physically remove him from the scene amid attempts by members of the public to attack him.
Despite being released under investigation, Evans continued to engage in sexualized communication with a decoy, believing her to be a child.
In one message, he expressed hope that she wouldn’t think he was a groomer, indicating his continued denial or minimization of his actions.
Following his second confrontation with the paedophile hunters, Evans was arrested and remanded in custody.
He ultimately pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including nine counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, one count of attempting to cause or incite a child into sexual activity, and one count of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
The court sentenced him to four years in prison, reflecting the severity and persistence of his offending behavior.
