STOCKTON BRICKLAYER SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT THREATS AND ASSAULTS ON PARTNER

A Stockton bricklayer has been sentenced to prison for severe violence and threatening behavior against his partner.

Callum Hay, aged 27, demanded that his partner be 'available to him every second of the day.' He left her a voice message, in which he asked 'if another man was there...all I’m saying is, if you're cheating I will chop your mother******* head off with a machete.' The voice note and a video showing Hay hitting his partner’s hands and leg with a wooden stick were presented in court.

On January 14 of the previous year, Hay pinned his girlfriend to the ground and punched her in the face, while under the influence of Zopiclone.

On August 10, he attacked his partner using a wooden pole.

During their four-year relationship, Hay served time in prison and was jailed for four weeks for breaching a domestic violence order that prohibited him from seeing his girlfriend.

He rejoined her in 2022 after being released from a 20-month sentence for an incident in 2019, where he stabbed a support worker with a needle after being asked to leave a homeless hostel.

Hay, residing on High Street in Stockton, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and coercive behavior within the relationship, occurring between September 2023 and August 2024.

The court heard that both Hay and his partner used drugs, and his defense argued he had moved in with her at her invitation upon his release.

His family history includes heroin use among his parents, though his grandmother has offered him a place to stay in Hartlepool following his release.

Hay has been remanded at HMP Holme House for the past seven months.

Judge David Brooke stated that Hay attempted to blame his victim for drug use, despite evidence of him hitting her with a stick, and accused him of seeking to control his partner.

Consequently, Hay was sentenced to 30 months in prison, with half to be served before release on license, and his time on remand will count towards his sentence.
