BRIAN CROSSLEY FROM HUDDERSFIELD SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN HALIFAX
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Brian Crossley, aged 31 and residing on Kaye Lane in Huddersfield, has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young girl. The offences came to light in July of the previous year, revealing a pattern of disturbing behavior that included both physical abuse and the creation of indecent images of a minor.According to court proceedings, Crossley admitted to sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons. The assaults occurred on two separate occasions, with evidence also indicating that he had made and possessed multiple indecent images of children. Specifically, he was convicted of two counts of sexual assault, six counts of possessing indecent photographs, and two counts of making indecent images. As part of his sentence, Crossley was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next decade and was prohibited from working with children or having any unsupervised contact with minors.
The case was brought to light after Crossley allowed a friend to use his mobile phone. During this incident, the friend discovered highly disturbing material stored on the device. The prosecution, led by Richard Walters, explained that the offences took place during a gathering at a friend’s house in Halifax on July 3 of the previous year. Court evidence revealed that the mobile phone contained footage showing the young girl asleep, while Crossley was seen touching her private parts over a span of approximately one hour. This footage was recorded while other guests at the party had gone to bed, indicating a prolonged period of abuse.
Further investigation uncovered that on July 17, Crossley again permitted a friend to use his phone. It was during this incident that the friend discovered a folder labeled “Kids,” which contained videos of the girl. The woman who found the videos subsequently showed them to the girl’s mother and contacted the police, leading to Crossley's arrest. Despite denying any knowledge of the videos and claiming that others had access to his phone, authorities found substantial evidence against him.
Analysis of the device revealed a total of 81 indecent images, ranging from level one to level four, with level five being the most severe. Among these images was a particularly disturbing picture depicting a 13-year-old girl being forced to perform oral sex. Crossley, who has prior convictions, though none relevant to this case, faced serious charges. His defense attorney, Martin Robertshaw, acknowledged that Crossley struggles with an attraction to young females, a problem he attributes to his drug use.
Judge Peter Benson addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the crimes. He noted that it was fortunate the victim was asleep during the abuse and had no recollection of the events. The judge described the acts as not isolated but part of a prolonged pattern of misconduct. He condemned Crossley for abusing a position of trust and for further aggravating his crimes by photographing his actions, which added a layer of depravity to the case. The sentence reflects the severity of the offences and the need to protect vulnerable children from individuals like Crossley.
