2010: WOMAN JAILED FOR FALSE RAPE CLAIM
A woman who made a false claim of rape because she wanted to split up with her husband has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.Bernadett Kore, 29, claimed she had been raped by two men in an alleyway off Prince of Wales Road in October.
She gave police a description of two black men she had seen in a nightclub that night, and police arrested the pair after checking the club CCTV records.
Nick Methold, prosecuting in Norwich Crown Court, said that she went to police in October last year and provided 'a long and detailed story…with gory and intimate details' of her supposed ordeal.
This led to police devoting substantial resources, costing around £15,000.
Her claims severely affected the two men involved; one lost three stone in weight from worry, and the college tutor of one described how he went from being a bright and vivacious young man to being withdrawn and tired, with lower attendance at college, all attributed to Kore's actions.
Kore, who has a young child and resides on Friarscroft Lane, Wymondham, previously admitted perverting the course of justice and was told she would serve half her sentence.
Judge Alasdair Darroch noted that her false claims caused serious harm to innocent men and that such fabrications can influence the minds of jurors in genuine cases.
Prosecutor Jonathan Morgans stated that Kore's story originated after she came home drunk and lied to her husband to rid him, not realizing the extent of her falsehoods.
Police emphasized that false rape claims are very rare, with Norfolk Police's Det Insp Matt Sharman stating this was the first such report he encountered in over 20 years.
