LINCOLN PAEDOPHILE BARRY WRIGHTSON SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR ABUSE IN GRIMSBY AND LINCOLN
In August 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving a pensioner from Lincoln who was convicted of heinous sexual offenses against young girls.Barry Wrightson, aged 79, was found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of two minors, one as young as 11 years old.
The court heard that Wrightson had raped one of his victims on two separate occasions, during which he also issued threats to her life, warning that he would kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
In addition to the rape, Wrightson sexually assaulted a second girl, causing lasting trauma and health issues for both victims.
The court was told that the victims continue to suffer from the emotional and physical repercussions of the abuse, highlighting the profound and enduring impact of Wrightson’s actions.
Judge Mark Bury delivered a stern judgment, describing the rape of one of the girls as 'unforgivable.' He emphasized the severity of the crime by stating, ‘Worse than that, you told her that, if she told anybody, you would kill her.’ The judge also remarked on the psychological toll, noting that the victim’s inability to confide in anyone had significantly affected her health.
Following the sentencing, Judge Bury remarked, ‘your chickens have come home to roost,’ as Wrightson was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The case elicited emotional reactions from those involved, with a woman connected to the case describing the situation as ‘heartbreaking’ due to the ongoing suffering of the victims even after the court proceedings.
Wrightson’s criminal conviction was secured at Grimsby Crown Court, where a jury found him guilty of two counts of rape, along with six other charges including sexual assault, engaging in sexual activity with a child, and inciting a child to participate in sexual acts.
He was acquitted of a charge related to sexual activity in the presence of a child and maintained his innocence regarding all other allegations.
As part of his sentence, Wrightson will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
