BANARAS HUSSAIN FROM HUDDERSFIELD JAILED FOR RAPE AND GROOMING OF TEENAGE GIRL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Huddersfield, three men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms after being found guilty of grooming and raping a teenage girl. The crimes date back to the mid-1990s, a period during which the victim was just 12 years old when she first encountered the men. The offenders, Banaras Hussain, Mohammed Akram, and Talish Ahmed, all residents of Huddersfield, were convicted following a comprehensive trial at Leeds Crown Court, which was part of the ongoing West Yorkshire Police investigation known as Operation Tendersea.

According to court proceedings, Hussain, aged 44, Akram, also 44, and Ahmed, aged 41, engaged in a pattern of grooming and sexual abuse against the girl over a span of several years, specifically between the ages of 13 and 15. The court heard detailed accounts of how these men exploited the girl’s innocence, subjecting her to acts of sexual violence that have left a lasting impact. The gravity of their crimes was emphasized by the judge, who handed down sentences of up to 18 years in prison.

Det Ch Insp Ian Thorne publicly addressed the case, stating, "These strong sentences reflect the gravity of these men's crimes against a young, innocent girl who they abused in the most appalling fashion. I hope these convictions again demonstrate to victims that we will do all we possibly can to help you seek justice no matter when the crimes were committed."

Banaras Hussain, whose address is listed as Church Street, Huddersfield, received an 18-year sentence for two counts of rape. Mohammed Akram, from Moorbottom Road, Huddersfield, was sentenced to 13 years for two counts of rape and an indecent assault. Talish Ahmed, residing on Rashcliffe Hill Road, Huddersfield, was given a 10-year term for rape. These sentences underscore the seriousness with which the justice system treats cases of historical sexual abuse, especially those involving vulnerable young victims.

Operation Tendersea continues to be a significant effort by West Yorkshire Police to investigate and bring to justice individuals involved in non-recent sexual offenses against young girls. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to protect victims and hold offenders accountable, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes occurred.
