After a trial at Oxford Crown Court, Miah was found guilty on all four counts and received a sentence of 11 years in prison.
Similarly, Azad Miah, aged 37 and living in Riverside Court, was arrested on March 22 of the same year. The very next day, he faced charges that mirrored those of his co-defendant: conspiracy to rape a girl, two counts of rape, and arranging or facilitating child prostitution. His trial also concluded with a guilty verdict on all four charges, resulting in a 12-year prison sentence.
The court proceedings, which commenced on June 20, brought to light the gravity of the offenses committed against a single female victim. The crimes took place in Oxford over a period from January 3, 2005, to March 28, 2007, highlighting a disturbing history of abuse that spanned several years.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Ali Driver, who is part of the major crime unit, expressed his relief and support for the victim. He stated, “First and foremost I am delighted for the victim in this case, who suffered horrendous abuse at the hands of these men. I hope that with these convictions today she can feel a sense of justice.”
Inspector Driver emphasized the police force’s unwavering commitment to combating child sexual exploitation, regardless of whether the crimes are recent or historical. He added, “When such allegations are made, we will support the victim, listen to them, and conduct a thorough investigation. I hope cases like this give victims the confidence to come forward and speak to the police so we can investigate, or, if they prefer, we can refer them to other organizations which can provide help and support.”
