ASIF BASHIR SENTENCED IN HUDDERSFIELD FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN LONG-RUNNING INVESTIGATION
In a significant development in the ongoing fight against child sexual abuse in Kirklees, a man from Huddersfield has been handed a substantial prison sentence following his conviction for serious sexual offences involving a minor.Asif Bashir, aged 35, was sentenced to an additional four years behind bars after being found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of a young girl.
The sentencing took place at Leeds Crown Court on December 3, 2020, as part of the broader Operation Tendersea initiative, which has been dedicated to uncovering and prosecuting cases of non-recent child sexual abuse within the Huddersfield area.
Bashir’s conviction includes two counts of sexual touching of a child under the age of 16, along with two counts of inciting sexual activity with a minor under 16.
These offences are alleged to have occurred between 2005 and 2007, during which time Bashir’s actions targeted a young girl in Huddersfield.
The case is part of a larger crackdown on sexual offenders, with Bashir already serving an 11-year sentence handed down in November 2018 for rape and attempted rape.
His new four-year sentence will run consecutively to his previous term, effectively increasing his time in prison.
This case marks the 35th conviction under Operation Tendersea, a comprehensive investigation that has so far resulted in offenders receiving a combined total of 393 years in prison.
The operation has been instrumental in addressing the sexual abuse of young girls in Huddersfield, with investigations spanning from 1995 to 2011.
The focus remains on bringing justice to victims and ensuring offenders are held accountable for their actions in the community of Kirklees.
