COWARDLY MAN JAILED AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK ON ELDERLY NEIGHBOUR
A 39-year-old man from Bridgend has received a prison sentence after a brutal and unprovoked assault on his 78-year-old neighbour.Ashley Morris, residing on Park Street, attacked the elderly man on 12 March outside their apartment building in Brackla.
The victim had just come back from shopping when Morris approached him, telling him to “smile now” and then claiming he would “make him smile”—before subjecting him to a violent assault.
During the attack, Morris punched the elderly man to the ground, held him down, and repeatedly hit him in the face and head.
He also kicked the man while he was defenceless.
Bleeding profusely, the victim managed to stagger to a nearby family member’s house and contact law enforcement.
Morris was detained at his flat shortly after the incident and later pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
On Monday, September 15, Cardiff Crown Court sentenced him to 42 months in prison.
Detective Constable Georgina Prince called Morris a “dangerous individual” who showed “no remorse” for his actions.
She remarked: “The victim demonstrated remarkable bravery throughout this ordeal.
I hope knowing his attacker will serve a significant prison term provides some reassurance.”
