2008: FIRE HERO JAILED FOR KILLING WIFE
A former Herefordshire resident, once honored as a hero for rescuing a woman during a blaze, has been sentenced to prison for the death of his wife.Andrew Erickson, age 46, who was commended in 1987 for saving a mother trapped in a fire at Steensbridge, received a seven-year sentence at Cardiff Crown Court this week.
Erickson, formerly from Humber Close, Steensbridge, admitted to manslaughter after running over his wife Fiona with his vehicle.
He also acknowledged pulling her from the car after she broke the rearview mirror and indicator arm while they were stationary on a roundabout.
Now residing at Banwell Court, Thornhill, Cwmbran, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of provocation during an earlier hearing, having previously claimed the incident was an accident.
Fiona Erickson, aged 47, was discovered gravely injured in the street in Cwmbran at 1am on July 7 of the previous year.
The couple had married the year before and had been together for about two years beforehand.
Erickson’s earlier claim to fame involved fighting his way into a burning building to save an unconscious mother in Humber Close, Steensbridge, back in October 1987.
