MUSSELBURGH MAN ANDREW BLAIKIE JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TEENAGE GIRL
A Musselburgh man has been sentenced to prison and ordered to register as a sex offender after confessing to sexually abusing a young girl.Andrew Blaikie, 44, claimed his actions were due to having “a broken brain,” when explaining his reason for assaulting his teenage victim.
The girl, a schoolstudent, was preyed upon by Blaikie at a property in East Lothian, where he inappropriately touched her.
The offences involved him putting his hands beneath her clothes and fondling her breasts, as well as touching her groin through her underwear, in multiple incidents from September 2021 through October 2022.
His arrest followed the victim’s emotional breakdown and her revealing to her mother that she had been repeatedly assaulted.
Court records from Edinburgh Sheriff Court disclosed that Blaikie told the girl he committed these acts because he had “a f***ing broken brain that makes me do things that are wrong.” The defendant had previously admitted to sexually assaulting the girl during the period from September 1, 2021, to October 2, 2022.
The girl testified that Blaikie had been transparent with his employers about his conviction but was nonetheless dismissed from his job at a local supermarket.
Sheriff Christopher Dickson emphasized the gravity of the offense, describing it as a severe breach of trust over an extended duration.
The judge concluded that only a custodial sentence could adequately address the seriousness of the crimes.
Accordingly, Blaikie was sentenced to 13 months imprisonment, placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years, and ordered to stay away from the girl and her home for five years via a non-harassment order.
Prosecutor Alan Wickham informed the court that Blaikie targeted the girl after her mother asked him to watch over her for an evening.
During that time, Blaikie inappropriately touched her, including fondling her breasts while they sat on a sofa watching movies.
It was also reported that he touched her vagina on multiple occasions, causing the girl to break down in fear and confide in her mother during a phone call.
Blaikie then sent texts to the girl, in which he claimed to be “f***ed up in the head” and expressed remorse, saying he “never meant to hurt anyone.” One message read: “I love you very dearly and I do have a f***ing broken brain that makes me do things I know are wrong but want to do them anyway as they feel so nice,” while another said, “I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused - goodbye.”
