ALLAN BELL SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL AND VIOLENT CRIMES IN WORKINGTON
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Workington, Allan Bell, a 37-year-old man residing on Garnet Crescent, was handed a severe prison sentence of 22 years after being convicted of multiple heinous crimes. The offences, which took place in and around Workington, included the rape of a woman and a young girl, as well as a terrifying threat to kill the child to silence her from revealing the assault.According to the proceedings at Carlisle Crown Court, Bell's actions were characterized by a pattern of extreme violence and sexual aggression. The court heard that Bell's conduct not only inflicted profound physical and emotional trauma on his victims but also left lasting scars that would affect their lives indefinitely. Despite his denial of the charges, the jury found him guilty in October of several serious offences, including rape, assault of a girl under the age of 13 by penetration, inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and making a death threat against the young girl.
The court was told that the woman victim described the impact of Bell’s assault as having a “shattering effect” on her mental health and well-being. Meanwhile, the young girl, who was also targeted, was left with “rock-bottom self-esteem,” a testament to the profound psychological damage inflicted by Bell’s actions. The court heard that during the incident, Bell threatened to kill the girl while wielding a knife, a chilling detail that underscored the level of danger and intimidation involved in the crimes.
As part of his sentence, Allan Bell is required to register as a sex offender for life and must adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his movements and prevent further harm. The case has highlighted the importance of justice for victims of sexual violence and the ongoing need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable members of society, especially in communities like Workington where such crimes have deeply shaken public confidence.
