DARWEN MAN SENTENCED AFTER SECRETLY FILMING AND SHARING SEX VIDEO
A man identified as Alistair Watson, aged 24, from Kelvin Street, Darwen, secretly filmed a sexual act involving him and his partner and then sent the video to another woman he was communicating with via an internet chat site.
The prosecution disclosed that Watson had been chatting with a girl named Amy from Portsmouth on the Kik messaging app, during which he sent her a video of himself masturbating and other explicit images.
He also shared nude pictures of his partner and a video of their sexual activity, which he had recorded without her consent.
The victim did not authorize the sharing or recording of these images.
The case was brought before Blackburn magistrates, where Watson admitted to voyeurism—specifically, recording another person during a private act with the intent that he and a third person would view it, knowing the individual did not consent.
Watson's actions led to a police investigation, and he was sentenced to a 24-week prison term, suspended for 24 months.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 35 days of Rehabilitation Activity, perform 60 hours of unpaid work, and comply with a 12-month restraining order preventing contact with his victim.
He was also required to register as a sex offender for seven years and pay costs and surcharges.
The court heard that Watson also confessed to his partner about chatting with the girl and sharing explicit content, which led to her involving the police, and his subsequent guilty plea was accepted.
The sentence aimed to address his actions describing them as a betrayal that backfired when he was blackmailed by the chat room participant.
